Jesus Is On The Cross

Updated: Jun 9, 2019

Jesus is on the Cross dying and the three Mary's are nearby watching. Disciple John records that His first words from the Cross are spoken to Jesus' mother. When Jesus saw his mother and the disciple whom he loved standing beside her, he said to his mother, “Woman, here is your son.” Then he said to the disciple, “Here is your mother.” And from that hour the disciple took her into his own home. John 19:26-27

Here on the Cross during His suffering and agony Jesus compassionately lovingly thinks of His mother. She is watchful, beside Him (as close as she can get to Him) in the salvation goal, and if she could tell Him not to worry about her she would for He has explained the Cross, His death, and heaven. She's listened intently and cherished these things in her heart continually. She is strong yet those who have been horrifically mean to Him may have opportunity to catch her up.

He knows His mother's heart and He knows you. Alone is unnecessary. Jesus gives her John so they can talk about what's on her mind, he can share his travels with Jesus and fill in the blanks, and John will care for and outlive her. She will still have the women in the family, girlfriends, and women believers to be close to but John will take the earthly place of her son. Jesus pairs them. John needs a mother like Mary. She brings out the best in her children.

To God be the Glory!
