Promises Kept

Updated: Jun 9, 2019

Did you promise to feed your dog or cat each day? Did you promise to help your Mom or Dad? Did you promise to love and to cherish your spouse? Did you give your sworn promise God you would do His will and not yours? Whatever you have promised you intend to keep. Holding that foremost in your thoughts, God had promised Sara and Abraham a child. The promise was given when Abraham was in his 60's and Isaac's birth came about when Abraham was in his 90's. God always keeps His promises.

Then: The angel of the Lord called to Abraham a second time from heaven, and said, “By myself I have sworn, says the Lord: Because you have done this, and have not withheld your son, your only son, I will indeed bless you, and I will make your offspring as numerous as the stars of heaven and as the sand that is on the seashore. And your offspring shall possess the gate of their enemies Genesis 22:15-17

God had asked Abraham to sacrifice the son, which Abraham obediently almost did. When God saw that Abraham and Sara would do whatever God asked then God sent an angel to tell them to keep Isaac safe. To tell Abraham and Sara their descendents would be like the sand that is on the seashore. And that they would possess their enemies property.

Consistently throughout the Old and New Testaments we see that God keeps His promises. The greatest promise God ever has made is that He promised He would send a Messiah, His Son with Him at creation, to give us salvation that would bring us into right relationship with God. Jesus is the bridge to God, the link, and His Presence dwells in our hearts by the power of the Holy Spirit. Jesus is the Way, Truth, Life, and the Promise Kept.
