I will instruct you and teach you the way you should go; I will counsel you with my eye upon you. Do not be like a horse or a mule, without understanding, whose temper must be curbed with bit and bridle, else it will not stay near you. Many are the torments of the wicked, but steadfast love surrounds those who trust in the Lord. Psalm 32:8-10
We may say that Jesus’ Mother Mary had a heart of gold. She did! She wanted to do what God needed her to do and wanted it with her whole heart. Yet, what was there about her heart that made it so that she could communicate with Angel Gabriel so well? Was it because she had a listening heart? She had a heart filled with steadfast love as she trusted in the Lord to guide and direct her.
A listening heart is one that some believers develop by trusting God in the small things and then when a big thing comes, they trust God with steadfast love and He makes a way for them to make right choices, pray continually, and rely on God to see them through. If you’ve been a believer for many years you may already have a listening heart.
When God speaks to you just as plainly as your friends speak to you then you will receive clear guidance when you seek it from Him. And when you have a listening heart you may become like a little child when you are speaking with Him-- utterly dependent and obedient toward God because He loves you tenderly. As you have become sensitive to His voice and His caring sensitivity then you may hear Him clearly.
What is It that He is directing you to be more sensitive to? How can you please God in obedience? That God loves Mary’s heart, and your heart is heart-warming, isn’t it?
