Everything That We Affirm

Apostle Paul reminds us with piercing clarity: “If the Resurrection did not happen, then everything we affirm about God’s saving work in Christ is null and void.” Without the Resurrection, there would be no foundation for our faith, no hope in the Gospel, no victory to proclaim. That is why 1 Corinthians 15 matters so deeply. We believe that the Resurrection of Jesus is true, and in that Resurrection Jesus is revealed fully as the Christ, the Son of the Living God.

Yes, there are worldly unbelievers, but we do not stand with them. We belong to Christ Jesus because we do believe. Faith is our stronghold. It anchors us when storms rage, it strengthens us when doubts creep in, and it keeps our eyes on the Risen Lord.

At Christ’s Resurrection, evil was decisively put in its place. In that moment—and in every moment since—Jesus overruled evil’s power. When we call on His Holy Name, evil cannot stand. It must flee, because it has no choice in the presence of the Living Christ. This is why we pray boldly and live courageously: the victory of Jesus is our victory.

Also, this victory calls us into unity with Christ. As Christians, we must continually confess our sins to God through Jesus, receive His merciful forgiveness, and allow the Holy Spirit to transform us and unify us. Only then are we shaped into His likeness. Within us, Christ plants His goodness, His humility, His spiritual simplicity, and His poverty of spirit that makes us depend wholly on Him. In praise and thanksgiving, His majesty shines through us.

Paul says it best:

“For I handed on to you as of first importance what I in turn had received: that Christ died for our sins in accordance with the Scriptures, and that He was buried, and that He was raised on the third day in accordance with the Scriptures, and that He appeared to Cephas, then to the twelve. Then He appeared to more than five hundred brothers and sisters at one time… Then He appeared to James, then to all the apostles. Last of all, as to one untimely born, He appeared also to me… But by the Grace of God I am what I am, and His Grace toward me has not been in vain… Whether then it was I or they, so we proclaim and so you believed.” (1 Corinthians 15:3–11)

This testimony is not just ancient History—it is the heartbeat of our faith today. The same Grace that changed Paul’s life is the Grace that carries us now. The same Risen Christ who appeared to His disciples is the Christ who lives in us. And the same Gospel that first ignited the Church is the Gospel that sustains us until the day we see Him face to face.
