“May the God of peace Himself sanctify you entirely; and may your spirit and soul and body be kept sound and blameless at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ. The One who calls you is faithful, and He will do this.” 1 Thessalonians 5:23–24
Do you pray the “News”—lifting up world events, tragedies, and needs—as well as the personal prayer requests that come your way? Do you pray until the Holy Spirit gives you a sense of peace and completion? Prayer is Holy time. It is the sacred space in which we are united with Christ and receive His gifts of strength and power. In these moments, God is actively sanctifying us—making us Holy, just as Christ is Holy.
When we pray for the Lord’s best for someone else, we do so with confidence in God's promise that “all things work together for good for those who love God” (Romans 8:28). The Apostle Paul gives us a clear example of persistent, faith-filled prayer. He knew suffering, anguish, and exhaustion—not because he did wrong, but because he lived courageously for Christ.
Yet through Paul’s prayers, Jesus worked miracles. His endurance through hardship bore witness to the healing power of Jesus Christ. His sufferings were not wasted; they became instruments through which God's power and goodness were revealed to others. In the same way, our prayers—especially in times of trial—are not in vain. They invite the Resurrection power of Jesus into broken places.
This same power is needed when a loved one dies, when tragedy strikes, or when an entire Nation grieves. We pray Christ’s Resurrection power into these moments. We pray for healing, for hope, and for strength to carry on. Heavenly Father is faithful, and He will do this.
With you in Christ Jesus,
Rev. Patricia E. Walker
