Luke 22:35-71 to 23:1-56 Our Savior died on the Cross for us today. He was focused on giving us the Victory. The chief priests and scribes had offered Judas money to betray Him and Judas betrayed Him-- for his love of money. Jesus our Savior is arrested, receives an illegal trial on unjust charges, is beaten one lash from His life, and trudges up the Via Del la Rosa until He falls onto His own pool of blood from the beating.
Dr. Luke's words say Simon of Cyrene is ordered to follow behind Him and carry the Cross. Jesus' hands and feet are cruelly nailed to the Cross and He is hoisted into the air to die. A crown of thorns is put on His head and a sign that says 'This Is The King Of The Jews' is placed at the top of the Cross.
Luke says our Savior's last words from the Cross are, "Father, forgive them; for they do not know what they are doing," "Truly I tell you, today you will be with Me in Paradise," and "Father, into Your Hands I commend My Spirit." (Luke 23:34,43, 46) He loves those who hate Him, kill Him, and dies for them too. He dies on the Cross to give us His Gospel Truth: At His death He takes on our sins and evil so He can give each one who believe on Him salvation and New Birth. Our Jesus shows us His Victory over evil today.
With Jesus' death at 3 o'clock in the afternoon the darkness of evil no longer has the Victory over any part of our lives. His suffering death is for each one of us, to give us His power over evil. Any part of evil now flees at the blessed Name of Christ Jesus. All Victory is in Him, always in Him, and today our love for Him expands, overflows, transforms us, and humbles us.
We are God's Holy children all because of Jesus' suffering death on the Cross. We have our salvation in Jesus Christ and His words are alive within us, Gospel Truth is our joy to live and share, and if He can endure the Cross then we can too. Victory.
