Psalm 118:1-2, 14-16 rings with power and promise. It opens with a resounding call: “O give thanks to the Lord, for He is good; His steadfast love endures forever!” This is no ordinary thanksgiving—it is a declaration of triumph! We, like the Israelites before us, lift our voices in celebration because we know where the victory truly lies. Not in our own strength or merit, but in our Risen Christ. The victory is His!

In ancient Israel, this Psalm was used as a litany of praise when the king returned victorious from battle. Imagine the jubilation in the streets, the songs rising up from a grateful people, all proclaiming that the Lord had done it—He had delivered them again! Today, we sing that same victory song, not for a battle won by sword, but for the Eternal triumph won at the Cross and His sealed empty tomb.

“The Lord is my strength and my might; He has become my salvation.” (Psalm 118:14) This was Israel’s praise—and it is now our anthem. The Psalmist goes on to say, “The right hand of the Lord does valiantly!” (v.15) Yes Jesus does. How valiantly our Lord has acted for us. Jesus Christ—rejected, beaten, crucified—has become the Chief Cornerstone. What the world cast aside, God raised up as the foundation of Eternal salvation.

Verse 22 of this Psalm glows with Resurrection light: “The stone that the builders rejected has become the chief cornerstone.” This prophetic declaration pointed ahead to Jesus. The early Church knew it, and we affirm it today with hearts full of Easter joy. Jesus, the Rejected One, is now our Victorious King. Through the Cross came rejection, but through the Resurrection came redemption—and that redemption reaches us today!

So, like the Psalmist in verse 23, we proclaim: “This is the Lord’s doing; it is marvelous in our eyes!” Marvelous indeed, because His victory is our hope, our strength, and our future. Yes, we thank God for personal victories—but far greater is the victory of Christ over death, sin, and the grave.

Let every heart shout: Alleluia! Jesus Christ is Risen! The victory is His—and now it is ours in Him!
