When God Surprises You!

When we look at the early life of Moses, we see that he is grounded in both his family and his work. He is not in a temple or on a mountain when God appears—he is simply tending sheep. It is in the quiet routine of his shepherding duties that Moses is surprised by God. He wasn’t expecting a Divine encounter in the wilderness, and certainly not through something as startling as a bush that burned but was not consumed. Perhaps Moses assumed that if God were going to reach out, it would be through his father-in-law’s sacred place— after all, Jethro was a priest, and the shrine was designated for worship and spiritual reflection.
But God chose the desert. Unexpected. Unlikely. Holy.
Likewise, Saul— later known as the Apostle Paul— was not in a synagogue or at prayer when he encountered Christ. He was on the road to Damascus, fueled by zeal to persecute believers, when Jesus met him head-on. Saul was thrown from his high horse and heard the unmistakable voice of the Lord Jesus Christ: “Saul, Saul, why are you persecuting Me?” (Acts 9:4). In an instant, Saul’s vision was taken so that a deeper sight could be given— he would now depend on others, not just for physical help but for spiritual transformation.
You might be wondering, When will God surprise me?
Take heart— the delay is not denial. The silence does not mean you've been forgotten or cast aside. Just as with Moses and Saul, God’s timing and location are often unexpected, but always perfect. The same Resurrection Power that transformed their lives is working behind the scenes in yours. Be assured: “God is able to do exceedingly abundantly above all that we ask or think.” (Ephesians 3:20)
So remain faithful. Stay rooted in your calling. Be attentive in your daily responsibilities and committed to the relationships God has entrusted to your care. For in the most ordinary moments, God may break through with extraordinary grace— and you will be forever changed.
With you in Christ Jesus,
