A Dry Soul

“Let anyone who is thirsty come to Me, and let the one who believes in Me drink. As the Scripture has said, ‘Out of the believer’s heart shall flow rivers of Living Water.’ ” John 7:37-38

Jesus speaks about your thirst. You get what He is saying-- your deepest and greatest need is to be Spirit quenched. Calming yourself prompts Spirit to be plentiful within your spirit. Then believers see the great adventure of life set before us each day. Yet for some of us the adventure may be crushed by running out of money, or when someone(s) near and dear die, and by betrayal.

The crushing can dry out our soul just like a wet towel hanging on the clothes-line dries quickly in the 106 degree sun. We can see the towel but your dry soul is invisible. Your inner being quietly gasps for a drink of Spirit. In Scripture today, Jesus speaks to those under the cruel oppressive Roman Rule and most of them know thirst first-hand because good water to drink wasn't on tap or in handy bottles at the grocery, Jesus says, "Come to Me. Believe"

Texas preacher, Dr, Charles Allen, liked to point us to the 23rd Psalm and suggest we look at the sheep beside the still waters. For you see, a sheep will not drink from moving water. Smart sheep. Calm water holds no dangers. Jesus is saying Holy Spirit is the calm water. Go to Jesus in calm. And what is the sign that you have Spirit? Jesus' Calm Truth within you.
