Where did you find your comfort when you were a small child? In your mother's arms, her lap, and as she spoke words to soothe you. Jesus knows that at times we need a boatload of comfort. Jesus says God gives us our loving mothers to teach us about God's loving comfort.
We may choose other places for comfort yet best comfort is found in our Lord. We may buy things, try a hug and kiss, flop into a chair or couch, or gather our pet. These are temporary comforts. God is the One who can fill us with comfort. But things happen in life to upset us.
Jesus notices that we can be shaken by events in our lives, and sometimes rightfully so. Our Lord tells us the story of a woman who was upset when she lost a very expensive coin. She extensively and persistently searches and her neighbors search just in case she left the valuable coin somewhere around their homes. "How could this happen?" she thinks "It's lost, really lost." She's not giving up though.
After a search like she has never searched before she finally finds it. She calls her neighbors in to have a party to celebrate, laugh, and share joy together. It's comforting to celebrate. "It's like this," Jesus says, "That's the kind of party God's angels throw every time one lost soul turns to God."
And isn't it true? We are the lost souls when we choose to allow our emotions rule our hearts instead of faith.
God is steadfast and faithful to us. God Almighty rules. That in itself comforts us. God's comfort clears our minds to think straight, uprights us to persevere, and motivates us to work together for God's best outcomes. Jesus tells us that our Heavenly Father loves us, all is not lost, He's helping us, let nothing shake your faith.
“Or imagine a woman who has ten coins and loses one. Won’t she light a lamp and scour the house, looking in every nook and cranny until she finds it? And when she finds it you can be sure she’ll call her friends and neighbors: ‘Celebrate with me! I found my lost coin!’ Count on it—that’s the kind of party God’s angels throw every time one lost soul turns to God.” Luke 15:8-10 The Message Bible
