There was a time when tightrope walkers captured the world’s attention. Crowds gathered as they walked across places like the Grand Canyon, Tallulah Gorge in Georgia, and even between Chicago skyscrapers. Karl Wallenda and the Flying Wallendas became famous for their breathtaking feats, and many of their performances can still be seen today.

Yet one detail about Karl Wallenda has often been remembered. It was said that before his tragic fall, he had begun concentrating more on the possibility of falling than on successfully completing the walk. Where we place our focus truly matters.

For us, the solution is clear—we are to look to Jesus first. We keep our eyes directed toward His loving countenance rather than on the fears or obstacles before us. Instead of dwelling on the challenges that lie ahead, Jesus calls us to focus on what He can accomplish through us. As Hebrews 12:2 reminds us, we are to fix our eyes on Jesus, the pioneer and perfecter of our faith. When our gaze is steady on Him, He steadies our steps.

The goal before us is not self-invented; it is given by Him. Perhaps He is stirring your heart to return to school and prepare for a new calling in the medical field. Perhaps He has entrusted you with the sacred goal of raising children who love Heavenly Father, Jesus, and Holy Spirit. Or maybe He has placed within you a passion to evangelize and kindly lead others into a saving relationship with Christ.

Whatever assignment the Lord has entrusted to you, keep looking to Him. He will guide you. He will strengthen you. He will perfect your faith as you move forward. When your eyes are fixed on Jesus, your steps grow steady, your courage increases, and your purpose becomes clear.
