A Love That Will Not Let You Go

A Scottish preacher who was called by Christ to preach when he was younger, entered college. Later, at the age of twenty he became blind. Determined to serve Christ through preaching, he continued his studies and entered the ministry. He served churches, wrote three widely popular books on theology and spirituality, and accepted Queen Victoria’s request for him to preach at Balmoral Castle.

His name was George Matheson. Experiencing how exactly Christ overcomes our suffering, Dr. Matheson explains it in a beautiful hymn. Foundationally this hymn is built on the Scriptural event with the woman at the well and Savior Jesus’ love exchange with her. Matheson’s hymn reads: O Love that wilt not let me go, I rest my weary soul in Thee; I give Thee back the life I owe, that in Thine ocean depths its flow may richer, fuller be.

Christians allow the places in our weary souls to take rest in Jesus’ Love. And in your suffering, He is not going to release you to go with any of your bad choices right now. Christ lovingly invites you back into His comforting and clear guidance, where your worry and concerns are given to Him—and left with Him.

If the suffering has caused you to become self-involved, I invite you to give back your life to Christ. Choose Christ. Why? His love for you is deeper than the ocean and more compassionate than anyone, save God. Because He is the Son of God, nothing is impossible for Him. His love will not let you go anywhere except to Him.

The woman said to Him, “I know that Messiah is coming” (who is called Christ). “When He comes, He will proclaim all things to us.” Jesus said to her, “I Am He, the One who is speaking to you.” John 4:25-26
