At a business meeting I attended years ago, the teacher placed a yellow children’s block on the front table of the class. He asked, “What do you see?” Many in the class raised their hands and said things like: a yellow block, a block a child has chewed on, a yellow rectangle, a yellow piece of wood.

One of the last persons in the class to respond said, “I see a yellow block, the black board behind it, the light shining on it, the table it is sitting on, and our teacher standing beside it.” Excitedly, the teacher said, “Correct! Our vision is not just limited to the yellow block, is it?

Similarly, when Jesus tells the Samaritan woman at the well that He IS the Messiah, all at once she is not looking at Him as a thirsty man who needs water. Her vision widens to see the Savior standing before her. She finds that He knows her even before she can tell Him about herself.

He understands that she has been on a quest to find a husband who loves her deeply and purely, yet she has been unsuccessful. He tells her that her quest must be quenched with a truest kind of love—spiritual refreshment found in praise and worship to our Heavenly Father God. Her Savior teaches her that our love and thanksgiving, our prayers lifted up to Him, and His glorious pure love is filling our hearts!

Jesus says,” But the hour is coming and is now here when the true worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and truth, for the Father seeks such as these to worship Him. God is spirit, and those who worship Him must worship in spirit and truth.” John 4:23-24

She goes back to her village to tell everyone about Jesus and they come to the well and invite Him to stay with them. He stays for two days. He increases their worship to the One God through spirit and in truth, and He loves all the children with her.

Your worship given to Him blesses your family and community, like the woman at the well.
