Peter Says The Right Words

The Lord God has given me a trained tongue, that I may know how to sustain the weary with a word. Isaiah 50:4
At night, when the disciples see Jesus coming toward them walking on the water, Jesus says, “Take courage, it is I; do not be afraid.” Then He says to Peter, “Come.” Peter steps out of the boat and begins walking on the water toward Jesus. Yet when Peter notices the strength of the wind around him, fear distracts him and he begins to sink. Peter cries out, “Lord, save me!” and immediately the Lord reaches out and saves him.
What happened to Peter? The wind itself did not overcome him—fear entered his thoughts and doubt clouded his trust. His attention shifted from Jesus’ Presence to the storm around him. In that moment, confidence gave way to uncertainty.
Doubt can act like a wet blanket upon faith, smothering courage and slowing our spiritual momentum. It whispers that we are alone, unprepared, or unable. Yet Jesus continually reminds us that we are His disciples and His beloved children. Loving you abundantly and blessing you extravagantly, Christ strengthens your determination to remain connected to Him—the source of faith’s energizing power and Holy Spirit’s direction for your life.
Isaiah speaks of the trained tongue that knows how to sustain the weary with a word. Sometimes that sustaining word is not long or complicated. Sometimes it is as simple and powerful as Peter’s prayer: “Lord, save me!”
Peter’s words remain among Scripture’s most beautiful expressions of faith because they reveal where true strength is found—not in ourselves, but in reaching toward Jesus. And every time we call upon Him, our Savior is faithful to reach back.
