Jesus says, “If you continue in My word, you are truly my disciples, and you will know the truth, and the truth will make you free.” John 8:31
Shortly after I was ordained an Elder, my Mother gave me a cloth covered notebook. She suggested that I write the names of the people that I marry and Baptize in it. “That’s what your Grandfather did,” she said. Over the years I’ve written many names. Long names used at Baptism and names that were joined in marriage covenant. All of the names hold a special place in my heart.
Some of the names have words and dates. The words say things like, “This nine year old came up on own and asked to be Baptized,” and two Sunday’s following, his brother and sister came up for Baptism. Also, “Wedding in backyard filled with friends,” and “Chapel wedding, laughter when ring would not go on finger.” Also, “Never seen her Dad so joyful.” The words jog my special memories.
Names tell us who, and words tell us more. The Name of Jesus tells us who, the words He gives us tell us more. “The Father and I are one,” Jesus says. So Jesus’ words are God’s words; the Way. His truth makes us free in a manner that is pure and clean. Jesus words have the truth of salvation, so that we love Him more deeply and trust Him more completely. We serve Jesus faithfully and trust Him more freely.
As you read, study, and live Jesus Christ’s words you are truly His disciple.
